SAY Soccer Background Screening Basics:
Please read the following information regarding background screening with SAY Soccer to assure your affiliated programs are following the correct screening procedures.
SAY Soccer Areas and Districts have flexibility when it comes to background screening. At a minimum, any person over the age of 18 that may have unsupervised access to minor athletes or other SAY members under the age of 18 must fill out a volunteer screening form. If they check “YES” to the felony or misdemeanor question on the application, they must be screened. Your SAY Area and/or District can utilize SAY Soccer’s preferred provider, Risk Management Inc (RSI), OR you may use a comparable screening company of your choice.
IMPORTANT: if you are sending SAY Soccer coaches and volunteers to the SAY website to fill out the volunteer screening form, there are specific steps to screen the applicant. The applications are NOT automatically run.
Who:
What:
- Providing RSI Criminal package which includes Nationwide criminal search, sex offender in all US states and territories, OFAC Patriot Act Search, and social security verification
- SAY Soccer covers the cost of any additional county screens when necessary
When:
- Screens should be conducted with RSI or your chosen provider, if an applicant indicates they have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor OR if your program chooses to screen all volunteers. This screening should take place prior to volunteers participating in any SAY sanctioned activity
Where:
- SAY Soccer’s Website www.saysoccer.org
- Click on the “background check” button in the middle of SAY Soccer’s homepage
- If you are not utilizing RSI, this application can be used through your chosen provider
Why:
- A safe environment for the kids and volunteers.
- Background screening is one part of SAY Soccer’s overall Risk Management Policy
How:
- If utilizing RSI, your league will direct volunteers/coaches to the SAY Soccer website to complete the Volunteer Screening Form
- SAY National Executive Director and Volunteer Screening Coordinator communicate when we receive applications from your league
- Because SAY doesn’t run screens that you do not approve, we simply ask that you decide:
- Archive one or all applicants
- Run one or all applicants in the RSI system
- SAY provides you with a web link, password and username to review results
- SAY communicates with you immediately if a disqualifying event is flagged
- SAY guides your volunteer screening coordinator through the adjudication process if there is a disqualification
- SAY bills $9.25 per screen on a monthly basis
- Applications will be automatically archived after (30) days if SAY Area or District does not reply to SAY National background screen communications
