Coaches Need Parents To Trust Them In Order To Be Effective Coaches

Young stresses the importance of parents understanding what the coaches message is, so they can trust them and support them. As a coach, he understands what a tremendous opportunity and responsibility that coaching is, so he wants parents to understand the lessons the coaches are trying to teach along with trying to win. When all this is done, a community of support forms around the program and leads to more success.

Steve Kerr: Core Values In Action

Steve Kerr reflects on advice given to him by Pete Carroll, a coach he admires, about coaching, and establishing a team culture. Carroll told Kerr that in order to create team culture he needs to pick 10 values that are important to him, and then narrow it down to 4 values. Carroll explained that the 4 values Kerr picked are now his teams core values, and need to reflect his personal life and the culture for his team.

Brian McBride: Advice to Youth Sport Coaches

McBride explains the privilege coaches around impacting kids for life. He offers coaches perspective on the experience and feelings they had growing up and playing sports . He describes how providing a child with a compliment and nurturing their talents is a unique gift coaches can and should give continuously.

Julie Foudy On Team Culture Adversity

In this clip, Foudy speaks with PCA at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention about team culture. She emphasizes the importance of athletes, coaches and administrators explicitly defining their team's culture, and making sure everyone is on the same page, rather than assuming that everyone on the team operates with the same mentality of culture.
